Activity Update June 11, 2020

Hi there. Just wanted to let you know what I, and other Crew members, have been working on since the last update.

LH Activity Update

If you are reading this, and you think LH has value, then please join the LH Crew. The Patron level is only $2 per month (which is pretty insignificant for most people) and every little bit helps.

LH Business

  • Nothing today.

SPORE

  • Home Depot run on Tuesday. It’s the first time I’ve been there since the pandemic started. Aside from a few small changes it felt like “business as usual”.
  • I spent Tuesday and Wednesday building the support for the metal container. I was also going to grind down the threaded rods so they will fit my drill. Unfortunately, the apartment building I live in doesn’t have exterior electrical outlets. They also don’t have an on-site workshop for their maintenance team. I briefly thought about doing it on our tiny balcony but figured I didn’t need an injury this week.
  • My solution to all this was to call some local metal working shops to get a price quote. I was eventually referred to Isaiah Spence, a local freelancer. I gave him the rods today and he says he’ll bring them back finished tomorrow evening.
  • I also created the Basalt Crushing Technique 4 page. I haven’t filled it out yet because I’m still getting all the gear in place. I probably won’t get a chance to try it out until Monday.
  • I’ve also been working on my SPORE PowerPoint presentation for the Lunar Development Conference. I’ve got the whole thing outlined and 3 out of 15 slides built. My goal is to be finished by the end of next week. I also want to create a virtual poster for the presentation as well.

Homestead Database

  • I’m putting this on hold until I get the stuff that HAS to be done before the LDC finished. Having the book ready would be a nice thing to have but it isn’t the highest priority. It’s starting to stress me a little that I still have a lot to do.

Moon Society

  • Director / Membership Coordinator
    • Attended the Board Meeting last night. I tried hard to get people to commit to actually doing some work. I don’t think I succeeded.
  • Work on the Lunar Development Conference
    • No work today.
  • LH/TMS Lunar Observing program
    • Got the Selenology 101 Certification to a semi-completed state. I threw it out to the Society leadership for input during the Board Meeting. I doubt I’ll get much. I’m going to leave it alone until next week while I work on other stuff.
  • LH/TMS Lunar Motor Design Contest
    • Started work on the proposal outline. I want to get it to the Society leadership by COD Monday.
  • Partner Program
    • Nothing.
