Hi there! This is a Lunar Homestead Business Update post. Exciting! This is where I let you know what else I’ve been working on besides the current project(s). As much as I’d like to spend 100% of my time researching, that’s just not possible. So I want to keep you up-to-date on what else I’m working on for Lunar Homestead.
- The Tampa Bay Moon Society Meetup (www.meetup.com/Tampa-Moon-Society-Meetup/) is live! Why not join up and get involved if you live in the Tampa area? The Moon Society and Lunar Homestead have overlapping goals and there’s no reason why we can’t have a mutually beneficial relationship.
- I scoped out the West Tampa Branch Library as a possible meeting site. No go. It’s too small and parking might be a bit sketchy. On to Plan B.
- I’ve started looking into using a company to print some Lunar Homestead swag. I want a couple of t-shirts at least. I haven’t made a decision yet. Still researching.
- I didn’t do much regolith research today. I’m still working on the idea I had yesterday. Basically, I’m wondering if there is a way to mitigate most of the challenges and unknowns that comes with Lunar surface mining operations (dust, vacuum, radiation, the need for complex robotics, temperature extremes, and regolith abrasiveness). I’m sure I missed a few because we really don’t understand Lunar regolith very well. Even the best simulants just don’t equal the real thing. So maybe the best (and easiest) way is to remove as many variables as possible instead of trying to engineer our way out. Easier said than done though.
